Ervin Ames AVOCA - Ervin Ames, 44, of Avoca passed away peacefully at Corning Hospital on June 9, following a short illness. Born in Urbana, he was the son of Ellen Lane of Bath and the late Raymond Ames Sr. Ervin attended Avoca Central School. He was employed as a cook at Smokey's Restaurant in Kanona. Ervin loved doing indoor and outdoor décor, playing bingo, traveling, and above all playing cards. He cherished spending time with his family especially during holidays, Christmas being his ultimate favorite. You could always find Ervin playing countless practical jokes on his family and friends. His sense of humor and laughter was like no other and will be greatly missed. Ervin is survived by his mother,Ellen; son, Christopher Ames (Jennifer) of Hillsboro, Texas; daughter, Christina Ames (Adam Johnson) of Binghamton; sisters, Pearl (Robert) Greer of Corsicana, Texas, Patricia (Donald) Ridley of Prattsburgh, Edith (Guinn) Spicer of Ft. Worth, Texas and Arettia Phillips of Alamogordo, New Mexico; brothers, Edward (Betty) Ames of Bath and Rick (Stacy) Phillips of Bath. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Cameron, Tyler, Cody, Cheyanne and Lexi; along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friend Brett Evener of Syracuse. He was predeceased by his step-father, Farrell Phillips and his brother, Kirk Phillips. The family welcomed relatives and friends at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 North Main St. Avoca for calling hours on Tuesday, June 10 from 6-8 p.m. and also welcomed them to a funeral service on Wednesday, June 11 at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation (in memory of his brother Kirk).
