McClouds lead way for Rams at qualifiers

MARION - Andre McCloud's workload will remain about the same as its been all season when the New York State Public High School Athletic Association track and field championships commence Friday, June 6, at the University at Buffalo.

McCloud was his usual dominant self Friday during Section V state qualifiers at Marion High School.

McCloud placed first in four individual events and therefore, will compete in states in four events. McCloud placed first in the 100 meters (10.90 seconds), 200 meters (22.06 seconds), long jump (22-feet, 5.75 inches) and triple jump (43- feet, 3-inches). While McCloud and the Rams competed in the small school division, he was the overall champion in the 100, 200 and long jump.

McCloud was one of seven Bath athletes who qualified for states.

"We're taking the most athletes we've ever taken to states, so that's good for our programs," Bath coach Mike Clancy said.

Lakeshia McCloud, Andre's older sister, also qualified for states by winning the long jump (17-feet, 6-inches) and triple jump (37-feet, 1-inch). In addition, Bath's Emily Johns qualified for states by winning the high jump (5-feet, 2-inches).

The Bath boys will send the 3,200 meter relay team to states after Sean Ainsworth, Derek Snyder, Garrison Koehler and Nick Badeau won with a schoolrecord time of 8:09.75.

Two different Bath girls relay teams also set school records, but did not qualify for states.

The 400 relay team of Lakeshia McCloud, Brittany Havens, Brittani Jones and Megan Russell finished third with a school-record time of 51.68 seconds. The Rams' 1600 relay team also made it into the record books as McCloud, Havens, Megan Russell and Ashley Russell were fourth in 4:12.63.
