Free summer food for children

This summer, free lunches and breakfasts will be available for all children and teens 18 years of age and under at various locations throughout Steuben County. No sign-up or paperwork is required to participate. The programs are not income based.

Many meal sites begin serving June 30 and will continue serving through August 29. But some locations may start later and/or end earlier. Sponsors include the the Food Bank of the Southern Tier (Campbell - Savona area) and the Bath Presbyterian Church.

Meals are provided through the Summer Food Service Program and the program is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture with some additional funding from the state and other various schools, nonprofits, and faith-based organizations. The NYS Education Department runs the program at the state level.

Nancy Torp, Nutrition Outreach and Education Program Coordinator for Steuben County, says, "We want the word to get out about these meals so that more teens and children will have healthy meals this summer."

For more information, please call the organizations and schools listed above or the Nutrition Outreach and Education Program of Catholic Charities at 1.800.724.2841.
