Tyrtle Beach benefit wraps up year

BATH - It was a good year for the Tyrtle Beach Youth Fund.

Donations to the fund, in support of the annual Lake Salubria "jump-in," totaled $33,808, the third highest amount in the history of the annual fundraiser for youth organizations in central Steuben County.

The funds will be distributed among 79 youth programs, with checks available Monday at the Steuben County Youth Bureau, located on Liberty Street in Bath.

Gary Pruyn, director of the Youth Bureau, called the fundraiser "a spectacular success."

The fundraiser featured twin sisters Betty and Donna Gerych of Bath, who plunged together into Lake Salubria's chilly waters on April 18. The Gerych sisters joined Bath police Chief David Rouse and Bath police Officer Heather Wheaton as top fundraisers for the annual event.
