Savona library hosts summer events

The Savona Free Library will host its summer reading program "Catch the Reading Bug" July 7-31. Children and teenagers can read for rewards and receive prizes by participating. A program featuring crafts, stories and ice cream sundaes will be held on Tuesday evenings July, 8, 15, 22, and 29 from 6 to 7 p.m. for children entering preschool through sixth grade.

The Library will offer a Movie Matinee program on Thursday afternoons July 10, 17, and 24 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. for children in elementary school. Teens will be able to enter weekly prize drawings for gift certificates to reward their participation. All program participants will celebrate the conclusion of the program with a cookout and awards ceremony on July 31 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. at the village park.

The Library received two grants in June. Monies received from a Tyrtle Beach grant will fund the new Movie Madness program and will be used toward the purchase of a large screen TV. A "Grow Your Collection" grant from the Southern Tier Library System will be used to purchase 75 new music CDs. The new CDs will be available beginning in July.
