John P. Kalinka

ELIZABETHTOWN, KENTUCKY - Loved and appreciated by family and friends, John passed away on Saturday May 3, after a long illness. He was 89

years old.

Born on July 25, 1918, in Lackawanna, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during Word War II. While in the military he received the Army Good Conduct Medal.

He and his beloved wife Catherine (nee Bruno) lived in Lackawanna, then retired to Bath and most recently in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Bradenton, Florida was their winter residence.

He worked for the City of Lackawanna for almost 30 years and was an active

member of the American Legion. During retirement, he and his wife traveled

throughout the U.S. and Canada and enjoyed visiting their children in Texas,

Ohio, New York and Kentucky.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Betsy (nee Toms); father, Lawrence;

sister, Mary Monaco; mother, Angela (nee Laco); and brother, Larry. John is

survived by Catherine, his wife of 36 years, siblings, Michael Kalinka

(Josephine) and Ann Kuczma (Richard); stepdaughters Louise Cantwell (John Schmolesky) of San Antonio, Texas, Paulette Kline (Mark) of Medina, Ohio, Michelle Rougeux (Greg) of Bath and Suzanne Ahmad (Murad) of

Elizabethtown, Kentucky. John was the beloved grandfather and great grandfather of Michelle, Jennifer, Mark, Kathryn, Rebecca, Philip, Shiraz, Shaheen, Sydney, Ezra, Gavin and Mackenzie. John is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is being planned for this summer and his ashes will be

interred at Holy Cross Cemetery, Lackawanna, New York.
