Juvenile apprehended after escape HIGHLAND - A 16-year-old Steuben County boy was arrested Tuesday, June 24, after he escaped from a youth detention facility Monday night by climbing through a fence hole, state police said. Wayne Fish, of Campbell, fled the New York State Children and Family Services Highland Residential Center in Highland, Ulster County, sometime before 10 p.m. Monday, when state police were alerted to the escape. After police began to search for the boy, a resident of the nearby hamlet of Rifton, approximately 15 miles from Highland, reported a suspicious person fitting Fish's description. When police arrived, they found a stolen vehicle in the area. Shortly after, a resident captured Fish, who was trying to steal the man's vehicle, state police said. The man held Fish until police arrived shortly before 3 a.m. Tuesday. Fish was charged with firstdegree escape and thirddegree grand larceny, both |
