Students present at Literary Festival

Fourth- and fifth-grade students at Dana L. Lyon Elementary School recently celebrated the school's sixth annual Literary Festival. Highlights of the event included guest speaker Lee Welles, author of the Gaia Girls series; readings by the winners of the school's writing contest and presentations by the Retell Club, a group of students who read a variety of genre and then write and present a retelling of the story.

Writing contest winners were:

Fourth-grade fiction:

Winner: Dana Barry

Honorable mention: Luke Snavely, Kendra Crans, Joshua Abrams and Logan Draper Fourth-grade poetry:

Winner: Trinidad Salinas

Honorable mention: Lori Keough, Willow Schramm, Dana Barry and Jennifer Patterson

Fourth-grade non-fiction:

Winner: Ian Wallis

Honorable mention: Alexus Nealey, Alyssa Eaton, Mitchell Davis and Trinidad Salinas

Fifth-grade fiction:

Winner: Andy Lathrop

Honorable mention: Ashley Shugars, Logan Deasis, Christian Rossman and Jacob Wilston

Fifth-grade poetry:

Honorable mention: Julia Longacre, Halley Snyder, Kirsten McCloskey and Ashley Bassett
