Havens, Rossi, Whedbee and Yastremski named Livingston County All-Stars

Senior outfielder Brett Havens, and Juniors Mike Rossi, (pitcher, first baseman, third baseman), Matt Whedbee, (second baseman), and Montana Yastremski (third baseman, pitcher) of the Haverling Baseball team were named to the Livingston County Athletic Association Division I All Star Team for the 2008 season. These four helped propel the Rams to the Class B Section V Baseball Championship advancing farther than any other baseball team in school history to the state quarterfinal game losing to Gowanda 2 - 1. The team finished with a 23 win and 5 loss season. Havens hit for a lofty .549 average, with six homeruns, three triples, nine doubles, which calculates to a .912 slugging average (the major league record is .863 held by Barry Bonds). Brett also collected twenty-one walks, fifteen stolen bases, had thirtythree runs batted in and fortyfive runs scored from the clean up spot in the order. Rossi batted .453, had four home runs, thirty-six runs batted in, and thirty-six runs scored. His pitching record was 6 wins and 0 losses, seventy-one strike-outs in fifty innings, and a 1.25 ERA. Matt Whedbee played a stellar second base and hit for a .410 average, with one home run, one triple, nine doubles, seventeen runs batted in, thirty runs scored, collected twenty four walks and stole seven bases. Montana Yastremski had a 4 win and 1 loss pitching record, striking out fortyfive in thirty-three innings with at 3.61 ERA. At the plate Yaz batted .453 with four homeruns, thirteen doubles, one triple, forty-one runs batted in, and scored thirty-three runs.
