Guy S. Castrilli (Gaetano Santino Castrilli)

BATH - Guy S. Castrilli, age 90, died Wednesday, July 9, at the Bath Veterans Administration Medical Center. He resided at 211 Burton Street, Bath and wintered in Florida for several years after retiring in 1972.

He was born in Bath August 7, 1917 the son of Nicholas Anthony Castrilli and Julia (Lavazolli) Castrilli proprietors of Castrilli & Sons Soda Fountain. He was a former Bath Postmaster appointed by President Truman. He graduated from Haverling Central School in 1933 at age 15 and went back for two years for post-graduate courses.

Guy was a Veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, Master Sergeant, serving in the South Pacific including the occupation of Japan. He was a frequent speaker at Veterans Day Ceremonies and an avid supporter of keeping the Bath V.A.M.C. open through some tough times.

Guy was active with the Bath B.P.O.E. 1547 as Past Exalted Ruler, District Deputy, Ritualistic Coach, Certified Ritualistic Judge, Past Secretary, Lifetime member and Treasurer for a number of years. He was former Commissioner of the Bath Gas and Electric Company, a member of the Charles E. Wescott American Legion Post 173 in Bath, Bath V.F.W. 1470 and the Bath Country Club.

Guy was an outstanding athlete at Haverling High playing all county Basketball and football and he was a semi pro Baseball Player. He helped found the Bath Midget League in 1949 and was a Past President Vice President, board of director and concession stand manager. He was a communicant of St. Mary¿ôs Church in Bath, past chairman of the March of Dimes and Past chairman of the Red Cross and a Bath Eagle Scout.

Guy was predeceased by his brother, Gabriel Castrilli; sister, Mary Sliney Castrilli; infant sister, Anna; and his parents. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Violet (Buckley) Castrilli who he married December 24, 1943 at Fort McClellan, Alabama; two sons, Tom (Maryann) Castrilli of Cheshire, Connecticut and Joseph (Joy) Castrilli of Blackhawk, California; three grandchildren, Heather Castrilli of Madison, Connecticut, Nicholas Castrilli of Denver, Colorado and Kathleen Castrilli of Cheshire, Connecticut; two nieces, Mary Jo Doherty of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Kathleen Richardson of Corning; and five nephews, David Sliney of Jackson, Georgia, Robert Castrilli of Bath, Peter Castrilli of Haymarket, Virginia, Steven Read of Bath and John Read of Corning.

Calling hours and an Elks Service were on July 11 at Fagan¿ôs Funeral Home. Funeral services with Military Honors were on Saturday, July 12, at 10 a.m. at the Bath VA Union Chapel with Reverend James Jaegeer presider assisted by Deacon Ray Defendorf. Burial was in Bath National Cemetery.
