Bath's revised comprehensive plan now on Web

BATH - Bath town officials have completed a new draft of a comprehensive plan to guide future development in the municipality. The document, expanded from an earlier version, is available for viewing on the Steuben County government's website.

Visitors to the website should click on the hyperlink for "Planning," then click on the link for "Local Technical Assistance." The next page will display the link "Town of Bath Comprehensive Plan Revised," which will take visitors to the newest draft of the comprehensive plan.

The plan is also viewable at: www.steubencony.org/planning/ BathTownComprehensivePlanREVISED. pdf

Bath town Councilwoman Robin Lattimer Monday described the new document as "more voluminous" than the previous draft, which a committee of town officials had revised from an original draft plan submitted to the town board at the end of 2007. The committee had reduced the size of the document by removing specific recommendations developed by the original land use committee charged with formulating a comprehensive plan.

The bulk of those recommendations have been restored to the plan, although Lattimer noted some have been revised.

Town residents at a public hearing earlier this year criticized the removal of the specific recommendations, arguing the general plan needed such details to guide future planning. Town officials returned to the comprehensive plan following that hearing and agreed to return the recommendations to the document.

While the new document is available for viewing, town board members took no action on the plan when they met Monday. Supervisor Fred Muller was out of town, and Deputy Supervisor Robin Lattimer said she wanted the full board to be present to vote on the plan's adoption.

The board will take up the issue when it convenes in August for its regular meeting. That meeting will be held in the Bath fire station on West Morris Street in order to accommodate interested residents.

Lattimer, however, noted the meeting will not include a public hearing on the new document.
