Helen R. Opila
BATH - Helen R. Opila, passed away on July 17 at her home in Bath.
She was born in Midland, Michigan. Helen lived most of her adult life in Chicago Heights, Illinois. She resided in Bath for the last 15 years. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, and daughter, Alice.
Surviving are four sons, Michael (Julia) of Leavenworth, Kansas, Raymond (Cassie) of Houston, Texas, Donald (Mary) Scottsdale, Arizona and Larry of Longmont, Colorado; four daughters, Elaine (George) Knehr of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Janet (Randy) Opila-Lehman of Bath, Karen (Joseph) Correia of East Meadow, New York and Mary (Marge Higgins) of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and 18 grandchildren.
Helen was a member of St. Mary's Church, American Legion Unit 0173, Ambulance Corps of Bath and Pro Action, She was a dedicated volunteer at Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital Gift Shop, Catholic Charities' Food Pantry, Wellness G.I.F.T.S. and retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). She was a RSVP's 2007 Volunteer of the Year and recently received her 3500 volunteer- hour pin for work at the hospital gift shop.
Visitation will be at Fagan's Funeral Home, 31 West Morris Street, Bath on Sunday, July 20 from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. On Monday, July 21, visitation will be at 10 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Fagan's Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be on Friday, July 25 at St. Agnes Church in Chicago Heights, Illinois. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery, Glenwood, Illinois.
