Robert Eugene Young

CAMPBELL - Robert Eugene Young, age 74, of 4230 Young Lane, Campbell, died Friday, July 11, at Corning Hospital, Corning.

Bob was born April 17, 1934 at Westfield, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Leo and Leah (Hackett) Young. On Jan. 29, 1965 in Catlin, New York he married Trudy Smith of Renovo Pennsylvania who survives him.

Bob graduated from Campbell Central School in 1953 and then attended William and Mary College in Virginia.

He served in the Marine Corps from 1954 to 1962 and while in the service was recipient of the national defense service medal, Navy occupational service medal with Europe clasp and the good conduct medal (#1 first award.) Bob was employed by Keuka Construction of Corning as a general superintendent and worked right up to the time of his death. Bob was a member of Campbell American Legion Post and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending quality time with his family and friends.

Surviving besides his wife, Trudy are three sons, Eric (Darcy) Young of Atlanta, Georgia, Greg (Marsha) Young of Hickory, North Carolina and Bryan Young of Hickory, North Carolina; one daughter, Sylvia Jones of Horseheads; six sisters, R. Waneta Spencer, Beverly (Russell) Brown, Donna Mourhess, C. Alberta Young, Colleen (Randall) Sutton and Maureen (Donald) Cook; three brothers, William (Kathy) Young, Richard Young and James (Doris) Young; grandchildren, Brandon, Robert, Macy, Desiree and Jolee Young; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Mark Chamberlain; and a sister, Shirley Ann Putman.

Calling hours were Monday, July 14 from 6-8 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning. Funeral services were Tuesday, July 15 at 9:30 a.m., burial with full military honors will be in Ackley Cemetery, Sabinsville, Pennsylvania.
