Steuben legislators on the wrong trail

To the Editor,

I noticed Mark Alger and Philip Roche got their way on the recently vacated Health Care Facility - "Office Space" more office space.

I have for over a year pleaded with the county legislators to consider this building for assisted living services which is needed so badly in the county. Their response was nothing. They could care less about the wants and needs of the people who have worked and paid taxes all their lives. Now they are old and need assistance, Mr. Alger and Mr. Roche could care less.

The cost figures given are not correct; not mentioned in a recent news release does it mention the building needs a new roof - that's good for at least two million. That building was not constructed or designed in any way for "Office Space." The true estimate to convert that building to "More Office Space" will be close to 20 million.

I do believe the three million left over from the recent jail construction would have been all that was needed for an Assisted Living Facility.

The Steuben County Legislators when voting on this "Office Space or Care" plan should remember that they themselves and close families cannot escape the need for Assisted Living Services in the future. When and if that happens I hope I'm around to witness this.
