Lola J. Tears

SAVONA - Lola J. Tears of 47 Maple Street, Savona, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Sept 14.

She was born in Starrucca Pennsylvania to Nelson and Minerva (Stearns) Woodmansee on June 2, 1928.

She is survived by her daughter, Melissa (Linwood) Ford of Corning; granddaughter, Jennifer Ford of Brockport; great grandchildren, Taylor O'Donnell and Sean McKiever; and two step daughters, Donna (John) Alvermann of Athens, Georgia and Elaine Tears of Bath.

She was predeceased by her parents and husband Raymond E. Tears.

She was a graduate of Corning Free Academy and RBI. Over the years she worked for Hugh Keenan DDS, Westinghouse, and Exec. Secretary at Corning Glass Works - retiring in 1984. She then moved to municipal government serving as Mayor of Savona, Bath Town Supervisor and Steuben County Legislator for 8 yrs.

She was a very active member in the Women's Republican Club, Bath Business & ProfessionalWomens Club, Bath Rotary and Quota Club. She was honored for her work in Pro- Action and Office for the Aging with a room named for her in the Steuben-Yates Pro-Action Building. She also served as President of the Finger Lakes RC & D.

She and her husband enjoyed travelling extensively both here and abroad. She found much pleasure in her family and vast network of friends, especially some made during the last few months of her life.

Family and friends called at the Seager Funeral Home in Bath. Calling hours were Wednesday, Sept. 17 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service was Thursday, Sept. 18 at 11 a.m. Interment was in Seamans Cemetery in Savona.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Southern Tier Hospice or Childrens Miracle Network.
