Emma Kenyon Slawson

BATH - Emma Kenyon Slawson was born on Feb. 28, 1916, in Genesee, Pennsylvania, the daughter of James and Emma Hurd Kenyon.

She was a life long resident of Genesee until the last decade when she resided with her niece in Bath, where she passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 29.

On Feb. 4, 1936, in Wellsville, she married Harold M. Slawson and they enjoyed 47 happy years together until his death in 1983. Emma worked for Worthington in Wellsville through the World War II years. Following the War and in subsequent years, she worked for Bausch and Lomb Optical, Galeton Production and Mapes Woodworking. Emma and her husband also owned and operated Slawson's Service Station in Genesee for more than 35 years. Fellow employees would always comment on her work ethic, perfectionism and professional dedication. For those of us who loved her, we will never forget her caring, loving nature, her absolute loyalty and devotion to her family. For us, there will never by anyone like our Aunt "Em" or "Omie."

A special thanks to all her caregivers over the years, most especially the family wishes to thank her principal caregiver, Kathy Luce, for her love, devotion and dedication to Aunt Emma. Without her, we couldn't have made it.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by four sisters, Mrs. Lowell (Hazel) Shepard, Mrs. Frank (Lina) Dean, Mrs. Sewall (Augusta) Vaughan and Mrs. Charles (Norma) Lambert; and two brothers, Warren D. Kenyon and William S. Kenyon.

She is survived by a niece, Nancy A. Vaughan of Bath; three nephews, Douglas L. (Ann) Vaughan of Erie, Pennsylvania, James (Claire) Shepard of Shinglehouse, Pennsylvania and James (Yuriko) Kenyon of Las Vegas, Nevada; a step-daughter, Marian Feness of Depew, New York; and numerous grand nieces and nephews.

Friends called at the Olney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ulysses, Pennsylvania on Thursday, Oct. 2 from 2- 3 p.m., with Funeral Services following at 3 p.m. with Rev. David K. Ford officiating. Burial was in Genesee Cemetery. The family provided the flowers.

Memorials may be made to the Genesee Cemetery, c/o Robert Kenyon, Genesee, PA 16923 or the United Methodist Women, c/o Audrey Eaton, 341 O'Donnell Rd., Genesee, PA 16923.
