HIGHSCHOOL VOLLEYBALL

JASON COX/THE LEADER Hammondsport's Amie Pizura sets the ball during the Lakers' match against Campbell-Savona Monday.
CAMPBELL - Hammondsport extended its winning streak to six matches with a 3-0 defeat of Campbell-Savona Monday, Sept. 29.

The Lakers downed the Panthers 25-16, 25-16, 25- 11 to up their record to 9- 1 on the season. Their latest win came on the heels of a win over Prattsburgh - which provided Hammonsport its lone notch in the loss column on Sept. 12.

"I'm hoping to continue the winning streak," said Hammondsport head coach Margo Denman. "We had a rough week last week playing Dundee, Fillmore and Prattsburgh."

Senior Kelly Clemens led the Lakers with 18 service points, which included three aces. Clemens also tallied seven digs in Monday's contest. Fellow senior Maggie Benedict served 12 points - which included five aces, while juniors Ashley Hulse (nine kills, two blocks) and Amie Pizura (16 setter assists) also stepped up.

"We've got four seniors and five juniors. We have a lot of experience and a lot of depth and that's helped us," Denman said. "If they keep playing together - we'll be all set."

Hammondsport has been able to put its loss to Prattsburgh behind it and has been focused on the future.

"It was upsetting," Denman said of her squad's lone defeat. "We went five games with them. Prattsburgh played very well. Now we've won six in a row since then."
