Bath Neighborhood Watch Group The Bath Neighborhood Watch Group will meet the third Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Bath Municipal Building. The next meeting will be held Oct. 15. Go & Bath Area Writers Group The Bath Area Writers Group invites interested individuals to join their round table readings and critiques from 7-9 p.m. every second and forth Tuesday of every month & Do in the Empire Room of the Dormann Library, W. Christian concerts Nite Lite Gospel House will host live Christian concerts for the family every Friday from 7-9 p.m. at the Christian Coffee House on Roosevelt Avenue in Bath. The next concert will be Oct. 17 with music by Bonita Eileen. The concerts will include refreshments such as coffee, cappuccino, soda and snacks. For more information, please call Sue at 776-1170 or Elisa at 776-1728. Bradford Fire Company Gun Raffle The Bradford Fire Co. Gun Raffle will be from 12-4 p.m. Nov. 8. Donation is $15. Ticket includes food and drink. Tickets are on sale at Ranch 226 Store and the Bradford Fire Hall on Tuesdays from 6:30- 7:30. Tickets are also available at the door. Guns and money will be for the raffle, must be present to win. Must redeem prizes by March 1. Dormann Library events The Dormann Library began its Fall story programs Sept. 9. • The preschool story time is for ages 3-5. This program will be on Tuesdays from 10:30-11:30 a.m. until Dec. 16. Each week has a special theme with stories, songs, games, and a craft. Visit the library web site at www.dormannlibrary.org for a list of the themes. • Cuddle Up is a program for children under 3 and their parent/caregiver. This program is held on Fridays from 10:30- 11 a.m. until Dec. 19. Events will include songs, rhymes, and simple stories and lots of fun. The Dormann Library is located at 101 W. Oct 29 in the Empire Room at the library from 6- 7:30 p.m. There will be stories, a craft and refreshments. Children are encouraged to dress in costume. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Hammondsport Library story time Join the Hammondsport Library for pre-school story time at the Fred and Harriett Taylor Memorial Library in Hammondsport. This fall pre-schoolers age 3-5 are invited to come to the library on Friday mornings for fun with stories and activities. Siblings are always welcome to tag along. No pre-registration is required. The program will run from Friday at 10:30 a.m., until Friday, Dec. 19. When school is closed due to weather, story hour will be cancelled for that day. Vendors needed The American Sewing Guild Southern Tier Chapter will have a sewing yard and craft sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Hammondsport Fire Department. Yard sale items must be sewing or craft related items. Craft items must be handmade. Fee: ASG members $10, Non-ASG members $20 per 8' table. German Sauerkraut Supper St. Thomas Episcopal Church of Bath will have their 25th Annual Old Fashioned German Sauerkraut Supper at 5 p.m. Oct. 20. A menu of sauerkraut cooked with pork, homemade mashed potatoes, homemade applesauce, light and dark breads, and sherbet and cookies will be servied. Ham and mixed vegetables will be available for thoe who do not wish the sauerkraut and wieners. The usual glass of beer will be included with the dinner for those who like it along with coffee, tea, or milk. Take-outs will be available. Tickets will be on sale at the door for $7 for adults and $3 for children under twelve. Caregiver workshop Sharing Your Wishes and the Steuben County Office for the Aging Caregiver Resource Center will hold a caregiver workshop from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Centenary United Methodist Church, 3 W. Washington, Street, Bath. Reservations will need to be made by Nov. 3 by calling 664- 2298. Refreshments will be available. The workshop will include a panel of professionals sharing expertise on endof life issues, advance care planning: "Nuts and Bolts" and opportunity for discussion and sharing with other caregivers. Bath Area Family Resource Center "Game Night with a Favorite Guy Buddy" will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 23. Come and enjoy some quality time with your children and discover all the learning that takes place while children enjoy games with you. Mrs. Warriner, VEW teacher, will facilitate the event. Spaghetti dinner The Hammondsport American Legion Auxiliary will host a spaghetti dinner at 5 p.m. Oct. 17. The cost is $7 per person. Members and guests are welcome. Stamp exhibit and bourse The Elmira Stamp Club's 33rd consecutive annual stamp show will commemorate the 100th anniversary of Historic Flight on July 4, 1908 by Glenn Hammond Curtiss from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 17 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Arnot Mall, 3300 Champbers Rd., Horseheads (I-86, exit 51.) Up to 60 frames of competitive exhibits, Pictorial Cancel and Show Cachet, 12-15 area stamp dealers, Post Office and junior activities will be available. Free parking and free admission. This event is sponsored by the Elmira Stamp Club. Neighborhood Senior Citizen Luncheon The Neighborhood Senior Citizen Luncheon for ages 50 plus will be held at 12 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Waneta Lake Baptist Chapel, Waneta Lake Road, Wayne. Bring a dish to pass. Special guest will be founder of the HP Christian Arcade Ministries and a well-known Billiard Restorer, Johnnie Petris, who will present Who Gives You Direction. Custom made pool cues and a rare Graham Page Antique Automobile will be on display. If unable to bring a dish to pass there will be a basket for donations for coffee expenses. Southern Tier Library System annual meeting The Southern Tier Library System 2008 Annual Meeting will be held Oct. 21 at the Bath Country Club, 330 May Street, Bath. Registration and book signing will be held at 5 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m. and a business meeting and program will begin at 7 p.m. Books will be available for purchase during the authors' signing portion of the evening. Payment for purchases must be made by library or personal check only, no cash accepted. Featured Authors in a panel discussion will be Joan Albarella, Charles Benoit, Robert Knightly moderated by Marie Hannan-Mandel. Reservations are due by Oct. 10 to Mike Eckstein. Tax stimulus checks According to the Internal Revenue Service, as of June 2008, more than 2,000 Steuben County residents eligible to receive a tax stimulus check have yet to file. The trigger to receive a stimulus check is to file a federal income tax return. People must file a 2007 tax return by Oct. 15 in order to receive the economic stimulus payment. If you normally do not file a tax return because your income is too low or not taxable you must file a tax return to get the stimulus payment. Free Class for Woodworkers A free class for woodworkers will be from 7-9 p.m. Oct. 22 and from 2-4 p.m. Oct. 25 at Garreson Lumber Company, Howard. Calendar sale to benefit ALS The "Dippy Dabblers", retired Campbell-Savona Central School teachers are selling their calendars for 2009 to benefit ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). The calendars showcase the art work of these retired teachers: Susan Goodrich, Anne Drake, Kathy McDonald, Phyllis Straulka, Jane Kaszczynec and Karen Flint. Karen was diagnosed with ALS in the summer of 2006 and was unable to continue teaching art at Campbell- Savona. The Flint family and their friends recently participated in the Rochester ALS walk. The seventeen members of their team raised over $4000 for ALS research and to find a cure for ALS. More information is available and calendars can be ordered from Mary-Ann Robinson, 776-6344. All proceeds from the calendar sales will go to ALS. Penny Social The 6th Annual Penny Social to benefit the Hyatt Clair Hatch American Legion Post #766 will start at 6 p.m. Oct. 20 at the N. Cohocton Atlanta Fire Hall. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the drawing will start at 7 p.m. Free refreshments, door prizes, 50-50 drawing and a gas/grocery raffle will be available. Winnings for the gas/grocery raffle are first prize $100 and second prize $50. Bazaar The Hammondsport Methodist Church will hold their annual bazaar from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 18 at 35 Lake Street. Lunch will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Crafts, dried flowers/ produce, granny's attic, baked goods, homemade candy, homemade ice cream and coffee will be available. Single Adult Fellowship dance Single Adult Fellowship will present a dance at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18 featuring live music by Quigg Hollow at the First Presbyterian Methodist Church, Painted Post. The dance is open to all divorced, widowed, separated or never married individuals. Must be 21 years of age to attend. NARFE monthly meeting The national Association for Active and Retired Federal Employees monthly meeting will be held the second Monday of every month at 12:30 p.m. at the Bath Country Club. Wescott American Legion, Post #173 will hold a fish fry dinner from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 17, Oct. 24, Nov. 14 and Nov. 21 at the Legion, 14 W. William St., Bath. Savona Free Library events • The Savona Free Library Board of Trustees will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 20 at the library, 15 McCoy Street, Savona. "Harvest Heartbeat for Ira" The Davenport & Taylor Auxiliary will hold its 11th Annual "Harvest Heartbeat for Ira" Arts and Crafts Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 18 at the new Bath Fire Hall, East Morris St., Bath. Vendor raffle drawings, door prizes, arts and craft vendors from the Finger Lakes area and bake sale will be available. Breakfast and lunch will be available with donuts and coffee for early arrivals; homemade soup, quiche, chili, sandwiches and beverages will be available for lunch. The Auxiliary will sponsor and take orders for fresh New Crop Georgia Pecans. All proceeds will benefit Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital and the Fred & Harriet Taylor Health Center. 55 Alive Driving Course AARP and the St. James Mercy Health System are teaming up to offer the 55 Alive Mature Driving Course for adults age 50 and over. The two-day course will be from 1-5 p.m. Oct. 21 and Oct. 23 in the hospital's Memorial Conference Room. Participants who complete the eight-hour classroom refresher course may receive a 10 percent discount on their auto insurance for three years and points may be taken off their license. Sowing Seeds of Sustainability The Ecumenical Community of the Southern Tier will present is Fall Forum: Sowing Seeds of Sustainability from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Centenary United Methodist Church, 3 West Washington, Bath. The opening presentation will be Sustainability: What Is It and Where Did It Come From? by Dr. Jason Hamilton, Associate Professor of Biology and Environmental Studies, Ithaca College.
