Hammondsport legion monthly meetings

The Hammondsport American Legion Unit #407 will hold their monthly meeting the first Sunday of every month at 2 p.m. The next meeting will be held today, Nov. 2.

Family mediation

The Center of Dispute Settlement is offering the alternative of Mediation. The advantages are that Mediation is free to those 21 and younger, it is confidential, a neutral person helps to consider all options, it results in better communication between family members, it helps maintain control over family problems, and everybody has a chance to tell their side of the story. Mediation is an alternative to filing PINS. The service is available to anyt Steuben County resident or youth over the age of seven years old.

Christian concerts

Nite Lite Gospel House will host live Christian concerts for the family every Friday from 7-9 p.m. at the Christian Coffee House on Roosevelt Avenue in Bath. The next youth night will be Nov. 9.

Boys and Girls Car Campaign

Now that the price of scrap metal has sharply risen, the Boys and Girls Car Campaign will accept most any car with no restrictions. Cars will be picked up anywhere in New York, usually within a week, and are sold at auction.

Foreign exchange students

Bradford Fire Co. Gun Raffle

The Bradford Fire Co. Gun Raffle will be from 12-4 p.m. Nov. 8. Donation is $15. Ticket includes food and drink. Tickets are on sale at Ranch 226 Store and the Bradford Fire Hall on Tuesdays from 6:30- 7:30. Tickets are also available at the door. Guns and money will be for the raffle, must be present to win. Must redeem prizes by March 1.

Dormann Library events

The Dormann Library began its Fall story programs Sept. 9.

• The preschool story time is for ages 3-5. This program will be on Tuesdays from 10:30-11:30 a.m. until Dec. 16. The next program will be held Nov. 4. Each week has a special theme with stories, songs, games, and a craft. Visit the library web site at www.dormannlibrary. org for a list of the themes.

• Cuddle Up is a program for children under 3 and their parent/caregiver. This program is held on Fridays from 10:30-11 a.m. until Dec. 19. The next program will be held Nov. 7. Events will include songs, rhymes, and simple stories and lots of fun.

Hammondsport Library story time

Join the Hammondsport Library for pre-school story time at the Fred and Harriett Taylor Memorial Library in Hammondsport. This fall preschoolers age 3-5 are invited to come to the library on Friday mornings for fun with stories and activities. Siblings are always welcome to tag along. No pre-registration is required. The program will run from Friday at 10:30 a.m., until Friday, Dec. 19. The next story time will be held Nov. 7. When school is closed due to weather, story hour will be cancelled for that day.

Embroidery Art Exhibit

An Embroidery Art Exhibit will be on display until today, Nov. 2 at the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum of early aviation and local history. This exhibit features hundreds of pieces of embroidery that were "hand wrought" by members of the Corning Chapter of the Embroiderers' Guild of America. The Curtiss Museum is open Monday through Saturday from 9-5 and Sunday from 10- 5, the Curtiss Museum is located at 8419 State Route 54, Hammondsport. Museum admission is $7.50 for adults, $6 for seniors 65 and older, and $4.50 for ages 7-18. Children 6 and under are free. Group rates are available for 10 or more.

Help & support for homeschoolers

Bath Area LEAH (Loving at Education at Home) would like to extend an invitation to all new and seasoned homeschoolers to join us in the coming year for support and fellowship as we begin a new school year. LEAH is a Statewide nondenominational Christian organization that offers support, advice and opportunities to share with fellow homeschoolers at a local level. Bath LEAH will meet at 6 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each month at the Bethel Assembly of God in Bath for a potluck with activities following. The next potluck event will be Oct. 28. Caregiver workshop

Sharing Your Wishes and the Steuben County Office for the Aging Caregiver Resource Center will hold a caregiver workshop from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Centenary United Methodist Church, 3 W. Washington, Street, Bath. Reservations will need to be made by Nov. 3 by calling 664- 2298. Refreshments will be available. The workshop will include a panel of professionals sharing expertise on endof life issues, advance care planning: "Nuts and Bolts" and opportunity for discussion and sharing with other caregivers.

NARFE monthly meeting

The national Association for Active and Retired Federal Employees monthly meeting will be held the second Monday of every month at 12:30 p.m. at the Bath Country Club. The next meeting will be held Nov. 10.

Fish fry

The Charles E. Wescott American Legion, Post #173 will hold a fish fry dinner from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Nov. 14 and Nov. 21 at the Legion, 14 W. William St., Bath. BAFRC fund raiser

Come enjoy fabulous music, dance, socialize with friends and support the Bath Area Family Resource Center by attending The Southern Tier All Jazz Bands fund raiser for BAFRC from 2-5 p.m. today, Nov. 2 at the Bath American Legion, 14 W. William St., Bath. The cost is $4 per person. This event will feature cash bar, snacks and 50/50.

Adult CPR/AED

Bath American Legion

• Charles E. Wescott Post 173 American Legion will host a ham and turkey raffle at 7 p.m. Nov. 7 at the post home. $5 for tickets to be entered in all drawings until drawn once. DJ to follow.

• Charles E. Wescott American Legion Auxiliary Unit 173 Jr. Auxiliary meetings will be held the first Saturday of every month at 1 p.m.. The next meeting will be held Dec. 7.

• A penny social will be held from 1-4 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Charles E. Wescott American Legion, Bath. Doors open at 1 p.m. for number purchase and drawing starts at 2 p.m. The event will feature a bake sale, door prizes, theme basket raffles, and 50/50. Proceeds to benefit Auxiliary programs. Leaf collection

The annual fall leaf collection for Village of Bath residents began on Oct. 20. All leaves must be raked or bagged and brought out to the curb for collection. Village crews will begin collecting leaves on the East side of Liberty Street, beginning on East Morris St. and will proceed north. Crews will begin collection on West side of Liberty St. after completion of the East side. No brush or trash will be accepted.

Jack Lisi Youth Award Fall Reception

The Second Annual Jack Lisi Youth Award Fall Reception will be held from 6:30- 8:30 p.m. at the Coopers Plains BOCES Campus. Special guest speakers will be Steuben County District Attorney, John C. Tunney; past Jack Lisi Award winners, Gary Goodrich and Ira Bragg; Master of Ceremonies, Jack Kelley, a retired CCC's Vice President/Dean of Student Development and treasurer of the Jack Lisi Youth Award Board of Directors. Refreshments will be prepared and served by the BOCES Culinary Students.

HEAP applications

Beginning Monday, Nov. 3, applications for the 2008-2009 HEAP program will be accepted in Bath at Pro Action of Steuben and Yates, Inc. located at 117 E. Steuben Street. Applications are accepted on a first come first serve basis between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm. Applications may also be filed with the Steuben County Department of Social Services between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Election Day book sale

The Fred and Harriett Taylor Memorial Library in Hammondsport will hold a book sale from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 4 from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. in the lower level of the library near the local polls. As usual, prices will be $1/hardback, $.50/paperback.

ReThreads Clothing Pantry

Rethreads Clothing Pantry will be open during the Winter each Tuesday and Thursday morning from 9-11 a.m. and again each Tuesday and Thursday night from 6:30- 8:30 p.m. ReThreads Clothing Pantry will also be open every Wednesday afternoon from 1- 5 p.m. and every Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You must present a voucher to shop at ReThreads Clothing Pantry. Vouchers are available at offices of the Dept. of Social Services, Pro-Action, Catholic Charities, The Pregnancy Resource Center of the Valleys', Public Schools, and all local churches. ReThreads Clothing Pantry is located at 7 E. William Street in Bath. ReThreads accepts donations of gently owned laundered clothing as well as household goods, furniture and major appliances in good condition. Holiday wreath fundraiser

The Fred and Harriett Taylor Memorial Library in Hammondsport is selling locally made outdoor holiday wreaths about 22" in diameter. The wreaths include fresh greens, berries, pine cones and a plaid Christmas bow.

The cost is $20 each due at the time of ordering. Place orders by Saturday, Nov. 22 for pick up on Friday, Dec. 5 at the library.

Bullying workshop

Bath Area Family Resource Center in conjunction with Friends of the Dormann Library offer conversations of bullying from 6-7:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Vernon E. Bath Police Department benefit campaign

President of the Bath Police Benevolent Association, Lester Brown, has announced the start of their Benefit Campaign and the publishing of the Law Enforcement and safety calendar.

Through the support of the community in this campaign Bath Police Department officers will be able to continue their public service activities throughout the year such as the sponsoring of local youth sports programs, award to students or their academic achievements, Toys for Tots, Relay for Life and the MDA lockup. The PBA plans on taking part and funding a local child identification program and starting a scholarship fund for graduating seniors. On behalf of the Officers of the Bath Police Benevolent Association their sincere appreciation and gratitude to our community.

Haverling Athletic Complex

Residents of the Bath Central School District can take advantage of the Haverling Athletic Complex (HAC) that includes a competitive/recreational sized swimming pool, state-of-the-art fitness center, indoor track and gymnasium.

Any interested members from the community or the school must complete the required medical and clearance forms prior to use of the facilities. The forms are available in the High School office during school hours or at www.bathcsd.org under District Documents. HAC hours

Roast port dinner

The Campbell United Methodist Church will hold a roast pork dinner from 4:30- 6:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at the church, 8516 Main Street, Campbell. Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children under the age of then. Presell tickets are avialabe by calling 527-3006.

Penny social

The public is invited to a Penny Social hosted by The Arc of Steuben on Saturday, Nov. 8. The event will be held at the Arc Headquarters at One Arc Way of Route 54, Bath (behind Simmons-Rockwell).

Proceeds from the event will benefit The Arc of Steuben's Emergency Fund. Doors open at noon, drawings start at 1 p.m., admission is free. Baked goods, 50/50 Raffles and $1 ticket items will be available.

Scrapbooking workshops

Haverling Fall Pops concert

The Haverling Music Department will host the Fall Pops concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6 in the High School auditorium. The concert will feature the Blue Platoon Pep Band under the student direction of Andy Dickinson, Jonathan Moore and Brenden Heil, the Chamber Choir and some select soloists directed by Neil Bryson, and the High School Jazz Band and Blue Regiment is free and open to the public.

Goodwill harvest dinner

The Rotary Club of Hammondsport will hold their Goodwill Harvest Dinner at 6 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Hammondsport Fire Department. Homemade desserts and 50/50 raffle will be available. All persons in the community are welcome. Donations appreciated. Net proceeds to the Fire Department.

Snow removal ordinance

Bath Police Chief David K. Rouse is reminded the Village of Bath residents that from Nov. 1 to April 1 between the hours of 2-6 a.m., the Village of Bath's Snow Removal Ordinance is in effect. During those hours, parking is prohibited on all streets within the village. Violators will receive a $25 parking ticket and depending on weather conditions, the vehicle may be towed at the owner's expence.

The Village of Bath residents are further reminded to refrain from depositing snow from driveways on village streets. Section 1219 of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law prohibts persons for placing snow on highways. Village Police will ticket anyone violating this law.

Savona Free library

The Hammondsport Central School JV and Varsity Baseball Teams will be having a can and bottle drive Saturday, Nov. 8. Drop-offs for this event will be accepted at the Main Street School between 9 a.m. and 12 noon. Pickups will be limited but can be arranged by calling Dan Conley at 569-5200 prior to Saturday. Proceeds from this event will go towards our 2009 Spring Training Trip.

Senior Citizen Luncheon

The Neighborhood Senior Citizen Luncheon, Friendship Harvest Dinner, for men and women 50 plus will be at 12 noon Nov. 11 at the Waneta Lake Baptist Chapel, West Waneta Lake Road, Wayne. Windmill Farm & Craft Market

This year The Windmill Farm & Craft Market south of Penn Yan, 3900 Rt. 14A five miles south of Penn Yan will pull out all the stops in decorating for the holidays starting on Nov. 11. The market will be open every Sat. through Dec. 13. The three large buildings and several businesses along the Street of Shops are heated for customer comfort. Those shops that are in open air spaces that wish to stay for the entire season will move into the produce area in Bldg. 4.

Nov. 29 is Customer Appreciation Day when shoppers will enjoy free hotdogs and hot chocolate along with the chance to see Santa Claus wandering the grounds. The hot chocolate for all shoppers.

The Windmill will reopen April 25, 2009. The market is open every Sat. from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. along with Memorial Day, July 4th (if not a Sunday) and Labor Day. For more information check out thewindmill.com.

Bath Peace & Justice Group

The Bath Peace & Justice Group and the Steuben Greens will meet from 7-8:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Dormann Library, Bath. A 30 minute documentary "Rural Impact" on the envioromental impact of horizontal gas drilling and hydraulic fracturing in Colorado will be shown with a discussion to follow relating to our local area. Meat shoot

The Savona Rod and Gun Club will hold a meat shoot (slug and muzzleloader) from 9 a.m. to 12 noon Nov. 9 at 11 Babcock Hollow Road, Bath. Breakfast will be available starting at 7 a.m.

GST BOCES CTE program open house

Students, parents and interested community members are invited to the GST BOCES Career and Technical Eduation (CTE) Program Open House from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Nov. 5 on the Bush Campus, Philo Road, Elmira. All classrooms and shops will be open and CTE Program staff will be available to provide information and answer questions.

The CTE Program offers training in more than 20 career areas to high school and adult students. Programs include Dental Assisting, Auto Body Repair, Culinary Arts, Fashion Design and Retail and many other exciting options. Criminal Justice students will be on hand to direct visitors.

NARFE

The NARFE luncheon meeting will be at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Bath Country Club. It will be a turkey dinner. For reservations call 776- 3738.

VA celebrates Veterans Day

The Bath VA Medical Center will be hosting two events in celebration on Veterans Day.

• A patriotic concert will be held to honor the veterans at 2 p.m. Nov. 8 in the VA Auditorium, building 92. Soprano soloist Carrie Hooper will perform show tunes, patriotic and sacred selections.

• The VA's official Veterans Day observation will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 11 in the VA Auditorium, building 92. Medical Center Director, David J. West, will open the ceremony with special remarks and then a "United We Sing" concert will be performed by the Maple City and Arrowhead Barbershop Chorus. The public is welcome at both events.
