The Dormann Library began its Fall story programs Sept. 9. • The preschool story time is for ages 3-5. This program will be on Tuesdays from 10:30-11:30 a.m. until Dec. 2. The next program will be held Nov. 25. Each week has a special theme with stories, songs, games, and a craft. • Cuddle Up is a program for children under 3 and their parent/caregiver. This program is held on Fridays from 10:30-11 a.m. until Dec. 19. The next program will be held Nov. 28. Events will include songs, rhymes, and simple stories and lots of fun. Join the Hammondsport Library for pre-school story time at the Fred and Harriett Taylor Memorial Library in Hammondsport. This fall preschoolers age 3-5 are invited to come to the library on Friday mornings for fun with stories and activities. Siblings are always welcome to tag along. No pre-registration is required. The program will run from Friday at 10:30 a.m., until Friday, Dec. 19. The next story time will be held Nov. 28. When school is closed due to weather, story hour will be cancelled for that day. The Steuben County Hall of Fame Committee is searching for a "hero" for 2009. Help by submitting a written nomination for someone who has distinguished himself of herself, and by doing so, has brought reflected glory to Steuben County. Nominations are being requested from people of all ages for the 2009 Hall of Fame, and they must be submitted by Dec. 31, 2008 to the Steuben County Hall of Fame Committee. If the indivudla you have nominated is not chosed for the 2009 Hall of Fame, you may continue to submit their nomination each year. Drive through Living Nativity

Southern Tier Hospice and Palliative Care has announced the beta testing for its preschool-grade 12 school bereavement program for schools in Chemung, Steuben and Schuyler Counties. The school bereavement program will create a system to identify and support bereaved students and to provide training for the school staff and faculty members for schools in the three-county service area. Souther Tier Hospice and Palliative Care staff will also be a permanent resource to the schools to assist in referrals, continuing the training program and assist in identifying ways to fill unanticipated needs that might be bought forward in the community. The Arc of Steuben will host its annual Day of Sharing by giving out donations of winter wear, toys, clothing, crafts, small household items, small appliances and other new or recycled gifts. This event is the Arc's Christmas gift to the community and will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 6 at One Arc Way behind Simmons Rockwell in Bath. This event is open to everyone. The "13th Annual Miniatures Vendor Show and Sale" will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 29, at The Glenn H. Curtiss Museum of early aviation and local history, 8419 State Route 54, Hammondsport. This is an opportunity to purchase miniatures as well as view the 18th Annual Miniatures and Doll House Exhibit. Special reduced admission for this one-day event is $5.00. Southern Tier Hospice and Palliative Care is offering a Family Holiday Gathering from 1-3 p.m. Dec. 6 at their offices at 11751 East Corning Road next to the Crystal Lanes bowling alley. This gathering offers time to make an ornament, decorat cookies and other crafts. There will be information on managing grief for both children and adults. Families are encouraged to attend and work on projects together. Refreshments will be served while holiday music plays. There is no cost for the event. A Pearl Harbor Day Commemoration ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Bath Rod & Gun Club. The public is welcomed to a day of remembrance of the Pearl Harbor survivors and the men and women that gave the supreme sacrifice for our freedom. Prattsburgh Winterfestival
The Prattsburgh Winterfestival will begin on Dec. 5. Festival of Lights at the Historical Society will have tree's decorated by Dec. 4. Events by days are as follows: • Dec. 5 - Businesses will hold Open Houses during regular Business hours with refreshments and drawings. A "Cookie Walk" by Methodist Women will be held at the American Legion. • Dec. 6 - The Ambulance Corp will hold a chicken BBQ dinner from 4 p.m. until gone at the Prattsburgh Firehall. Cost is $5 for half a dinner and $7 for a whole dinner. • Dec. 7 - The Prattsburgh Rotary will sponsor the arrival of Santa. Boys Scouts will serve hot chocolate. The Prattsburgh Bible Church will present a Live Nativity at 5 p.m. Immediately following will be the town tree lighting will all trees lit at the same time. After the tree lightings the Prattsburgh Library will hold an open house. Refreshments by sponsored by the 4H. The Christmas cash drawing will be held with prceeds to the Prattsburgh Summerfestival. the Ecumentical Community Thanksgiving Service will be held at 4 p.m. Nov. 23 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 32 E. Morris Street, Bath. The service is sponsored by the Ministers' Association of Bath representing, but not limited to, these area churches: St. Mary's Church, St. Thomas' Church, Church of the Good Shepherd, Centenary United Methodist Church and First Presbyterian Church of Bath. An offering for the Association's Itinerant Fund will be collected. A special guest preacher will be the Right Reverend Dr. Prince Singh, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Rochester (pictured here). His sermon topic will be "radical hospitality." The service will feature the combined gifts of area musicians. An opportunity will be given for individuals to submit names of people and situations for which they are thankful and these will then be read aloud. |
