CORNING - The annual free Thanksgiving Day dinner at Christ Episcopal Church was a big success according to Canisteo native Tommy Auckland and many others that enjoyed a family style holiday meal.

“This is my first time here and I love it,” Auckland said. “Such great people, great food, it couldn’t be better.”

Janet Farnsworth, event organizer, said the doors at the 21st annual event on East First Street opened at 11:30 a.m. and tables were full throughout the day.

“It been great,” Farnsworth said. “I think everyone is enjoying it.”

Auckland said he traveled from Canisteo because he didn’t want to spend Thanksgiving or have Thanksgiving Day dinner alone.

“Most of my family moved away,” said Auckland as he enjoyed dinner surrounded by new friends. “I’m having a great time here and I’ll be back next Thanksgiving for sure. It’s a wonderful event, I met new friends, and I think everyone is enjoying it.”

Farnsworth said the successful free turkey dinner included turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, corn, squash, cranberry sauce, rolls, pie and beverages.

“Everything really went well,” Farnsworth said.
