TUSCARORA - An Addison man was killed Wednesday morning in a two-car accident on State Route 417.
Randall E. Whiteman, 95, of Steuben Street, Bath, was killed after his vehicle, traveling westbound, collided with the rear of a logging truck that was turning left into a local commercial business.
Steuben County Sheriff’s said both vehicles were still in the westbound lane after the incident and the Tuscarora Ambulance quickly arrived on the scene for medical assistance.
The logging truck driver, who only received minor injuries during the collision, said he was stopped on the westbound lane, waiting for traffic to go past from the eastside lane, when the rear of the truck was struck by a motor vehicle.
Sheriff’s said investigation at the scene revealed the operator of the second motor vehicle did not apply the brakes to the vehicle or attempt to make any evasive steering to avoid hitting the logging truck.
Whiteman was removed from the vehicle and transported by ambulance to Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre Pa., to be treated for his injuries.
Sheriff’s were later notified that Whiteman had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday.
