CORNING - Thousands of people came out to Downtown Corning Saturday evening for the 42nd annual Sparkle festivities.

Market Street and the surrounding areas were lined with vendors, booths, food and attractions while residents and visitors alike experienced what the evening had to offer.

One of the main attractions of the evening was Santa in his Crystal House, where children and families had the opportunity to visit with Santa Clause and tell him what they wanted for Christmas this year.

The Johnson kids were among the dozens of children and families who visited with Santa throughout the evening.

"I'm going to ask for barbies," Aamia Johnson said.

"I'm going to ask for a watch," Aamore Johnson said.

Elsewhere along Market Street, local businesses and organizations said Sparkle is one of the most important events of the year for the local area.

"It's important for the community to come together," Centers Healthcare Field Marketing Manager Courtney Bauer said. "We're honored to be a part of this tradition and for continuing to celebrate it with the community."

Several weekend festivities will continue throughout the day today, including The Corning Museum of Glass and The Rockwell Museum's holiday open house from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. today, as well as various events at the Nasser Civic Center Ice Rink such as Christmas Wonderland on Ice, among others.
