ELMIRA - A man who allegedly robbed Sunoco gas station on North Main Street early Monday morning is currently behind bars.

Jezmar A. Barclay, 20, of Elmira, was charged with first-degree robbery, a class B felony. He is currently in the Elmira City lockup awaiting arraignment.

Police said Barclay, who was pretending to buy something at the store, approached the clerk with one hand inside a bag and the other hand holding a knife at about 2:37 a.m. Monday at the Sunoco gas station.

Barclay fled the store on foot moments after taking the money, police said. No one was injured during the robbery.

Police said the first officer on scene interviewed the clerk and obtained a description of the suspect, while other patrolman responded to search the area for the suspect.

A short time later, a witness was interviewed who provided further information related to this robbery, police said.

Officers were able to track the suspect, Barclay, to a residence in the 200 block of West Clinton Street. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Elmira Police Department.

Police said the investigation into the incident will continue.
