CORNING - Say the words mac and cheese and the name Mooney's is likely to become part of the conversation.

Corning's still relatively-new Sports Bar and Grill, which opened in July of 2016, has garnered quite the reputation for its large variety and large servings of the popular dish.

What better way to spend an afternoon enjoying some of the famous mac and cheese than to challenge The Leader's President and Publisher Rick Emanuel to a little eat-off.

Emanuel and I sat down to two full portions (which doesn't qualify as a "little" eat off) of mac and cheese at Mooney's Monday. Emanuel choosing the Three Pigs, while I tried the Buffalo Chicken.

Although I sometimes give my boss some grief because he's older than me - his prowess with a fork put me to shame.

Emanuel cruised through his mac and cheese, while I struggled to get 75 percent of mine down.

My eyes were bigger than my stomach - this time. Round 1 - pasta - goes to Emanuel.

I will now begin to scout out a venue for Round 2.

I'm welcome to ideas as I seek out spots that make the Corning area stand out. Anyone with suggestions can email me at svargo@the-leader.com.

Excuse me while I go take a little nap.
