BIG FLATS - About $960,000 of road work will be completed this summer in Big Flats including drainage, general maintenance, oil and stone work, overlay and milling and full depth reclamation projects.
The work, already underway at several locations, will be completed by town crews, contracted labor, and shared services.
Chris Austin, town highway supervisor, said work that will be completed this season is “status quo” with the amount of road upgrades completed each summer season.
Officials will also begin the design work of the federally funded Olcott Road Bridge rehabilitation project, that is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2018.
Town Supervisor Edward Fairbrother said street upgrades are a part of a 10-year-plan to get the roads restructured to the point the town doesn’t have to spend nearly $1 million each year to upgrade the streets.
Officials said funding for the road work comes from a variety of sources, including the state Consolidated Highway Improvement Program, the Federal Highway Administration and the town budget.
