PAINTED POST - Festivities for the 2017 Colonial Days are set to begin today and continue through Saturday.

“We’re really excited,” said Robin Gaige, president of the Painted Post Board of Trade. “We’re expecting a lot of people this year.”

The carnival will commence at 4 p.m. this afternoon and run until 9 p.m. in Hodgeman Park. It will run at these hours today through Friday. The carnival will feature several different rides and attractions.

The Miss Colonial Days Pageant will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at the main tent in Hodgeman Park. The pageant will feature five age groups ranging from ages 4-18.

The main events of the week will take place Saturday.

The firemen’s parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday and will run from West Water Street to North Hamilton Street.

Following the firemen’s parade, the Colonial Days Parade will begin at 11 a.m. It will also run from West Water Street to North Hamilton Street.

“The parade is much bigger than it was the last couple of years,” Gaige said.

The Carnival will run from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday in Hodgeman Park. There are several additional events planned for the day.

A chicken BBQ will begin at 10 a.m. and will continue until everything’s gone. Presale tickets are available at The Central, Tallman's Department Store, and VanZiles Shoe Store.

A beer tent will begin at noon Saturday and continue until 10 p.m., sponsored by Carey’s Brew House. There will also be live music from 7 p.m.-10 p.m.

The beer tent and food selection is expected to much larger than previous years.

“We have 21 extra craft vendors coming and food vendors that we’ve never had before,” Gaiges said.

Despite rain and clouds expected throughout the week, Gaiges said the festivities will go on as planned.
