CORNING - Recent upgrades made to the Nasser Civic Center Plaza will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, at the plaza.
City Manager Mark Ryckman said new benches, tables and trees have been added to the green space, for everyone in the community to enjoy.
“The city is accomplishing significant improvements in its parks through volunteers, grant sources and the Crystal City Parks Foundation,” Ryckman said. “When everyone pitches in a little, a lot gets done.”
Tom Blumer, Crystal City Park Foundation chairman, said the foundation is pleased to support the beautification efforts around the outside of City Hall.
“Although not officially a park, it is still a spot where local citizens can gather and relax at the new tables,” Blumer said. “This fits the support mission of our organization.”
Mayor Rich Negri said it’s great to see the Civic Center restored.
“People visiting City Hall, the library and the ice rink can relax in the plaza and enjoy the new tables and benches,” Negri said.
“The department decided to spruce up City Hall and replace the tables and benches, prune trees, fixed railings and planted flowers donated by Rose and Warren Blackwell,” said Chuck King, city parks and recreation director.
The city Department of Parks and Recreation and the Crystal City Park Foundation will be hold the ceremony event.
