CORNING - There’s only one thing better than eating chicken wings on your birthday - that’s eating FREE chicken wings on your birthday.

Well, thanks to a promotion which began in 2017 - persons celebrating their birthday at Cap’n Morgan’s can do just that.

Starting on Jan. 1 of this year, Cap’n Morgan’s, located at 36 South Bridge Street, began offering free chicken wings to help patrons celebrate their birthdays.

“It’s been very successful,” Cap’n Morgan’s owner Denise Morgan said. “We gave away more than 4,000 wings by May 1. Right now, we’re averaging about 700 free wings a month.”

First and foremost - know that there are rules involved with the free chicken wing promotion, such as:

- 24-hour advance reservation is required.

- Birthday guests must be 21 years of age or older.

- Proper ID is required.

- Celebration must be on actual birthday (unless it falls on a Sunday - then it may be held Saturday or Monday).

- Non-refillable drink purchase required.

- There is no limit to the number of friends brought to celebrate - but absolutely no wings will be taken home.

“The response has been phenomenal,” Morgan said. “People have been very happy with it. It allows friends to have a good time and have a smaller bill to pay.”

Among some of the more notable birthday bashes thrown, according to Morgan, was two of three 62-year-old triplets on the same day, as well as one person celebrating their 90th birthday.

“We usually start people out with one or two dozen wings, then they can decide if they want more,” Morgan said. “The group with the 90-year-old ate all 90 wings.”

Because Cap’n Morgans is closed on Sundays, it will honor Sunday birthdays on either Saturday or Monday.

“I did not expect the response we’ve gotten,” Morgan said. “We’re doing about 10-15 birthday parties a week.”

While celebrating my 51st birthday, the Vargo family only downed two dozen wings, as we also filled up on other Cap’n Morgan’s staples. Mine happened to be one of three birthdays being celebrated that day.

A word to the wise - while Cap’n Morgan’s staff will keep the wings coming as you eat them - absolutely no chicken wings will be going home with you - so don’t think you’ll be leaving with several “to-go” containers just because you can’t eat your age (like my family).

So be happy, enjoy your free wings and be good to your server.
