The Penn Yan Art Guild is once again offering a day trip to view the art of master artists at special exhibitions within a day’s drive of Penn Yan. The Guild has contracted with Fitzgerald Bros. Transportation Inc. of Geneva to provide a comfortable bus ride to the Fenimore Art Gallery in Cooperstown and the Arkell Museum in Canajoharie on Tuesday, Aug. 29. The all-inclusive cost of $150 includes gallery entries and tours, plus lunch at the Fenimore Museum, and dinner at Aqua Vino Restaurant in Utica.
The exhibition at the Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown celebrates Andrew Wyeth’s 100th birthday as expressed by his granddaughter and guest curator, Victoria Wyeth. This exhibition includes objects from Ms. Wyeth’s personal collection, many never-before exhibited, including Andrew Wyeth’s sketches, studies, paintings, artifacts, and ephemera, as well as Ms. Wyeth’s public and private collections. The exhibition shares an intimate view of the artist in his role as husband, father, and grandfather, and explores those relationships through art, artifacts, and photographs. On view will be two of Wyeth’s most popular works – Master Bedroom (1965) and The Revenant (1949).
The American Painting Collection at Arkell Museum in Canajoharie is the next stop on 2017 Day Trip. Bartlett Arkell, the founder and first president of the Beech-Nut Packing Company, built the original Canajoharie Gallery in 1927, for the people of Canajoharie, and the collection has grown and expanded from there. The American Painting Collection includes seven oil paintings by Winslow Homer and significant paintings by many distinguished artists including Thomas Benton, William M. Chase, Childe Hassam, John Singer Sargent, Albert Bierstadt, and Gilbert Stuart.
The Aug. 29 PYAG Day Trip is open to the public, but space is limited. Deadline for registration is Aug 21. For more information or to request registration form email email@example.com or check out the website at www.pennyanartguild.org and click on “Special Events.”
