The annual Lakeview Cemetery tour will be held Saturday, Aug. 26 at 2 p.m. Six characters from the past will reappear to entertain participants with their stories of triumph and tragedy.
This year’s stories will include Rebecca Wagener, wife of pioneer David Wagener, and Middlesex one room school teacher, Alice Bordwell.
As part of the centennial anniversary commemoration of WWI and N.Y.S. Women’s Right To Vote, Carrie May Jones Hinson, World War I nurse, and Harold Johnson, WWI soldier will be portrayed. Johnson became the first Yates County boy killed in the war.
The Johnson-Costello American Legion Post in Penn Yan bears his name. Dundee resident Florence Upson, suffragette, farmer, and businesswoman will make a visit to Lakeview Cemetery also.
The stories of these residents are all recreated by local volunteer actors. Wear your walking shoes for a stroll at the beautiful, historic Lakeview Cemetery in Penn Yan.
Parking for the event is limited to the Penn Yan Village lot across from the Elm Street entrance. Golf carts will be available to shuttle attendees. Tickets are $5 each or $15 for a family. Advanced sales are available at the sponsors of this event-Penn Yan Public Library or Yates County History Center. For more information, please call 315-536-7318.
