CORNING - Longtime City Councilman Frank Muccini was successful in Tuesday’s Ward 5 primary election against recently retired City Clerk Rose Blackwell.
According to unofficial results, Muccini defeated Blackwell 70-59 on the Republican line and 4-3 on the Conservative line.
Muccini will be on the Republican, Conservative and Independent lines in the November 7 general election.
The 26-year City Councilman will face Democrat Neal Pritchard and Blackwell, who will be on the Independence line, in the general election.
Muccini thanked everybody that came out Tuesday and voted.
“Most people forget about the primary (election), but it's very important,” Muccini said. “I’m looking forward to running another election. There is a lot of work to be done in the city and I intend to work with everybody involved to get it done.”
The unofficial results do not become official until the absentee votes for the 5th Ward seat are counted.
Blackwell said she is not discouraged.
“I think I can work a little harder between now and the November election and maybe things will turn around a little bit,” Blackwell said.
