CORNING -- The Wineglass Marathon announced it’s donated around $85,000 to over 50 organizations following its 2017 race events.
Some of the major recipients include the Food Bank of the Southern Tier; special needs awareness group Ainsley’s Angels; First Tee, a youth golf organization; and youth development program Girls on the Run, among others.
The Wineglass Marathon said it has donated about $425,000 to local nonprofit and civic organizations throughout surrounding communities since 2011.
“Giving back to the groups that help us achieve our mission is the best part of what we do,” Race Director Sheila Sutton said in a statement.
The marathon also gave a shout out to the law enforcement agencies, fire departments, county and local DPW’s, and law enforcement cyclists for their help in making this year’s race safe and orderly.
“It is a community effort,” Sutton said. “The passion our dedicated volunteers show, makes this event really special.”
The next marathon, now known as the The Guthrie Wineglass Marathon, will take place Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, through Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018.
