CORNING - A woman has been charged after the city police and fire departments responded to a structure fire on Lamphear Court early Saturday morning and uncovered a meth lab, according to Corning City Police.

Katrina L. Breon, 40, of Corning, was charged with third-degree unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine, a class D felony.

Corning City Police Chief Jeff Spaulding said the bust is indicative of the current uptick in drug related cases in the city and Steuben County as of lately.

“It looked like it was getting better but it looks like it’s coming back,” he said. “We like to stay on top of it.”

Police said officers and firefighters responded to 87 Lamphear Court at approximately 5:50 a.m. Saturday for a report of a structure fire.

While on scene, police said responding officers observed materials and evidence of an existing meth lab.

Corning City Police and the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office conducted further investigation of the scene, which led to Breon’s arrest.

Breon was arraigned in Corning City Court and remanded to the Steuben County Jail on $4,000 cash bail or $8,000 property bond.

The New York State Police Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office and the Corning Fire Department assisted city police at the scene.
