ALBANY - Assemblyman Phil Palmesano, R-Corning, and his fellow members of the Conference of Italian-American State Legislators are announcing the availability of applications for their annual scholarship program.

Four scholarships will be awarded, each totaling $3,000, Palmesano said. Two will be awarded based on academic achievement and two will be athletic scholarships.

“So many families are struggling to pay for college, and so many of our young people are struggling to afford student loan payments after they graduate,” Palmesano said. “Scholarships like these can make higher education a less stressful reality for talented kids who have worked hard to achieve great things during their academic careers. I’m encouraging students in my district to apply. It can mean a big savings for them and their families.”

The deadline to apply is the close of business on Monday, April 2, Palmesano said. Students in the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions can receive a scholarship application by contacting Palmesano’s office at 776-9691.

“We’re helping students realize their dreams and secure fulfilling careers. I’m proud to be a member of the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators," Palmesano said. "We’re a bipartisan group working to improve our communities and we’re celebrating our shared heritage."
