CORNING - The frequently-used outdoor chairs, benches and loungers donated earlier this summer to the city for use at the popular Denison and Stewart Park pools have received nothing but compliments from patrons.
Barry Nicholson, owner of Pure Design on Market Street, donated the 29 outdoor chairs, benches and loungers to help upgrade people’s experiences at city pools.
“We greatly appreciate the generous donation,” said City Manager Mark Ryckman. “This is high-quality pool furniture which will last a long time.”
Thomas E. Blumer, chairman of the Crystal City Parks Foundation, agreed.
“On behalf of the Crystal City Parks Foundation, I want to recognize and thank (Nicholson) for (his) most recent extremely generous donation,” Blumer said. “(The) donation enhances the attractiveness of both pool areas, and is already being widely used.”
Alex Hamilton, city director of parks and recreation, called the outdoor furniture a great asset to the pools.
“They are very highly used,” Hamilton said. “We’re very lucky that Barry was able to donate them to the city. They are a wonderful gift.”
Blumer said the chairs, benches and loungers are valued at $5,600, which is the largest donation ever received by the Crystal City Parks Foundation.
“Both the city and I are very grateful for (his) generosity,” Blumer said.
