CORNING - “It’s heartbreaking really.”
That’s what longtime owner of Donna's Restaurant, a popular eatery, Donna Robbins said as a group of Donna’s Restaurant supporters helped move the equipment out of the building that housed the restaurant, much that has sat at that location for more than 50-years.
The volunteers took the equipment to a nearby Market Street building to be held as work is completed at 58 East Market St., which will be the new home of Donna's Restaurant, with a grand opening set for Oct. 25.
“I'm sad to see it move,” Robbins said. “But I’m happy it will be moved back to somewhere very close. Putting it away was difficult.”
Robbins, has owned the restaurant at that location for nearly 34 years, and worked at the restaurant at the 48 East Market St., location for almost 54 years.
Corning Enterprises President G. Thomas Tranter Jr., said Corning Enterprises will pay for the fit out of the 58 East Market St., location.
“The fit out is basically painting the inside, setting the space with a lot of her stuff, which will be moved over from the current location, and creating the kitchen,” Tranter said.
Tranter said officials were able to negotiate a lease for 58 East Market St., with owner Peter Krog.
The building formerly housed Dippity Do Dahs, which recently moved to another Market Street location.
