CORNING - From westerns and romance novels to rare classics and children’s literature, book lovers should be saving their pennies and dollars as the Friends of the Southeast Steuben County Library’s Fall Book Sale will begin Saturday morning.
Volunteer will be busy moving 40,000 gently used books, DVDs, CDs, puzzles and other bargains from the Southeast Steuben County Library to the East Corning Fire Hall, 11873 E. Corning Rd., where the book sale will be held.
The biannual sale begins 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday with a members only first dibs sale, said Nancy Doutt, co-chair of the spring book sale. Membership is available at the door, $5 for an individual and $10 for families, with all proceeds benefiting library programming.
On Sunday, Sept. 30, the sale opens to the general public from noon-5 p.m.
Book sale hours are 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Oct. 1, through Oct. 4, and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. October 5. The final day of the sale, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 6, is the Bag & Book Sale where shoppers can bring their own bag or box to fill for a set price.
Doutt said on Oct. 1, discounts will begin at 10 percent discount which will increase 10 percent each day of the sale.
The sale only accepts cash and checks. Most items are from $1-$3. Proceeds benefit the Southeast Steuben County Library.
The spring book sale hopes to raise $25,000 for the Southeast Steuben County Library.
“Every bit of the profits goes to the Southeast Steuben County Library,” Doutt said. “It is used not to fund operational expenses but for children’s programing. The library annually has a summer reading program which is big. That is one of many programs the Friends of the Southeast Steuben County Library supports financially.”
