CORNING - Many Northside city streets will be filled with runners Saturday morning as the 7th Annual Wineglass Corelle 5K kicks off the popular Wineglass Weekend.

The 5K, which begins and ends near Corning Memorial Stadium, is a family-friendly event that offers full and half marathoners a chance to warm up, and others of all ages and skill levels the chance to participate.

“It is a flat, out and back course that starts and finishes near the War Memorial Stadium,” said Coleen Fabrizi, executive director of the Corning Gaffer District.

The Corelle 5K will starts at 8 a.m. Saturday, according to Fabrizi. All finishers will receive a medal and all age groups will be presented awards.

Age Groups include 9 and under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+

First, second and third place finishers in each age groups listed will receive an engraved mug.

The awards will be available for pick up Saturday, Sunday and Monday of Wineglass Weekend at the Corning Information Center, Fabrizi said. Awards not picked up will not be shipped to winners.

Registration to take part in the Corelle 5K, from Monday-Friday is $40, officials said. There is no race day registration.

Fabrizi said the economic impact Wineglass Weekend has on the community, which is millions and millions of dollars, is amazing.

“But traditionally nearly every person that comes to this region realizes what a gem it is,” Fabrizi said. “They love their time so much that many make a repeat visit and not just for the Wineglass Weekend. People often come back for other events, hiking, biking to visit wineries and everything else we have going on in our region. The impact is tremendous.”
