CANISTEO —A Hornell woman faces felony charges related to the alleged theft of more than $30,000.
Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports following a joint investigation, deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office and officers of the Village of Canisteo Police Department arrested Carrieann M. Gilliam, 37, of Emmet Street, Hornell.
It is alleged that from December 2017 through July 2018, Gilliam stole $30,523.55 from an individual in Canisteo.
Gilliam is also accused of not reporting that income as was required when she completed a recertification for benefits from the Steuben County Department of Social Services, and as a result received $759 in benefits she was not entitled to.
Gilliam was charged with one count of third-degree grand larceny by the Canisteo Police Department, and two count of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, both class-E felonies, and one count of petty larceny, a class-A misdemeanor, by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office
Gilliam was arraigned in the Village of Canisteo Court.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office and Village of Canisteo Police Department were assisted by the City of Hornell Police Department, the Steuben County Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit, and the District Attorney’s Office.
