JASPER — Jasper-Troupsburg school board members last week approved $2,217,176 in low-bidder contracts for the capital project that voters approved last May.

The board approved the Hale Contracting roofing bid of $930,313 to re-roof much of the Jasper and Troupsburg buildings with membrane that has a 30-year warranty.

Board members also approved the Frey & Campbell bid of $588,500 to replace boilers and unit ventilators for the project.

John Mills Electric was the successful bidder for the electric panel replacement, boiler rewiring and unit ventilators rewiring with a total of $342,500.

Nature’s Way Environmental at $355,863 was low bidder for paving and the fuel island.

School Superintendent Michael Mead said the board budgeted a total of $3.7 million for the total project. Projected total for the construction to date is $3.5 million, he said.

In other action, the board approved the recommendation to increase the uncertified teacher and substitute rates to $83.25 per diem, the certified substitute rate to $90 per diem and the extended substitute teacher rate for 6-to-30 consecutive day to $93 per diem.

For 31 or more consecutive days, certified teachers and substitutes would receive 1/200th of the starting teacher daily rate, retroactive to Jan. 1, 2019.

In addition, the board approved the recommendation to increase support staff rates for bus monitors to $11.10 retroactive to Jan. 1, 2019.

Board members accepted Kim B. Heckman’s letter of resignation, effective June 30, with intent to retire after more than 28 years in teaching experience.

The board also appointed Janine Schenck and Bonita Williams as co-advisors of the grades 7-through-12 students council.
