A registered sex offender was arrested early Wednesday morning for allegedly stalking a 15-year-old boy.
According to Elmira police, the boy was walking in downtown Elmira around 12:45 a.m. Wednesday when he noticed an adult male was following him. Eventually, the male attempted to engage the boy in “unusual” conversation, police said.
The teen told the man to stop following him and to leave him alone, but the man continued anyway, police said.
The teen contacted police, who identified the alleged stalker as Douglas R. Walrath, 40, of Elmira. Walrath was charged with fourth-degree stalking.
Walrath is a Level 3 sex offender, convicted of sexually abusing a person under 14 years old.
