A 40-year-old Cohocton man was arrested Saturday, Dec. 8, for allegedly driving drunk with three teens in the car.
Ryan R. Mehlenbacher was charged with felony driving while intoxicated, felony aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, avoiding an intersection, loud exhaust, driving without an interlock device and drinking an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle.
According to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, Mehlenbacher was intoxicated when he drove past a deputy’s vehicle in Wayland. He allegedly tried to elude the deputy by abruptly pulling into a private driveway and driving through a yard to reach an adjacent street.
The deputy caught up with Mehlenbacher and pulled him over for having a loud exhaust and avoiding an intersection. Police said they found Mehlenbacher was intoxicated and had three teens, ages 16 and 17, in the vehicle.
Mehlenbacher was released from custody after posting $1,000 cash bail.
Additional charges are possible, pending an investigation by Child Protective Services.
