Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital in Bath was recently cited for mistakes in applying for Medicaid reimbursement for its dental clinic, according to the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit representative Jerry Solomon.

Solomon told Steuben County legislators Monday the hospital’s dental clinic made mistakes in submitting claims. The hospital has agreed to return $255,000 to the Medicaid program as a result of the state investigation, he said.

Ira Davenport CEO James Watson confirmed the results of the investigation and said the mistakes were inadvertent and due to confusion about some of the rules for claims.

The investigation was a “positive experience” and was structured to help the clinic avoid mistakes in the future, Watson said.

The hospital’s dental clinic remains open, Watson said.
