Look ahead:

- Vice President Joe Biden and Congressman Paul Ryan will have their only debate of this election season on Thursday at 9 p.m. EDT. It will be televised on all major news channels.

- Columbus Day is Monday, though the official Columbus Day – the day Christopher Columbus landed in the “new world” – is Friday.

- Among the movies opening this week are “Argo,” an R thriller starring Ben Affleck, Bryan Cranston, John Goodman and Alan Arkin; “Sinister,” an R horror flick starring Ethan Hawke; and “Here Comes the Boom,” a comedy starring Kevin James and Salma Hayek.

- New albums are coming Tuesday from Barbara Streisand, John Fogerty, Kiss, Suzanne Vega and more.

A man dressed as Batman has been arrested and charged with obstructing a police investigation. Police say Mark Wayne Williams of Petoskey, Mich., who has been dubbed the Petoskey Batman, got in the way of their search for a man who allegedly fled the scene of an accident, and threw off the K-9 units.
