BATH | A winning streak of sorts that’s pushing a half-century in duration was in jeopardy of ending Saturday.

The Bath Haverling swim team entered its quad meet against Marcus Whitman, Gananda and Palmyra-Macedon with a 4-6 record.

The Rams needed to beat all three to improve to 7-6 and ensure their 48th consecutive winning season. And they did it ... barely.

With 594 points, Bath won comfortably against Marcus Whitman (336.5 points) and Gananda (524). The Rams edged Palmyra-Macedon (593.5) by a half point to extend a streak of winning seasons that dates back to the 1966.

Bath picked up a pair of victories and loaded up on several podium finishes.

Peter Skelly placed first in diving with a score of 246.7 and Colin Gilbert won the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.04.

Gilbert also took second in the 200 individual medley (2:19.16) and helped the Rams to a second-place showing in the 400 free relay (3:47.77), where he teamed up with Dalton Robinson, Drew Snavely and Michael Conley.

Skelly joined forces with Dan Wyatt, Tyler Smith and Conley to help Bath place second in the 200 free relay (1:42.24).

The Rams got additional second-place finishes from Robinson in the 500 freestyle (5:41.67), Wyatt in the 100 backstroke (1:12.01) and Shayne Stonier in diving (173.70).

“We had to beat everybody to have a winning record and the boys stepped up and it was a great meet,” Bath head coach Dan Easterbrook said. The Rams (7-6) closed out their 48th straight winning regular season. Bath will host the Livingston County Athletic Association diving championships at 5 p.m. Thursday. At 10 a.m. Saturday, Bath will host the LCAA swimming championships.

LCAA Championships

GENEVA | Ireland Armstrong’s record-breaking day led the Bath Haverling girls to victory in the inaugural LCAA championships at Hobart College on Saturday.

Armstrong cleared the 11-foot mark in the pole vault for an overall school record in either indoor or outdoor track, then broke the school mark in the triple jump and won the 300-meter run. Her 11-foot vault ranks sixth in New York State and guarantees her a spot in the state meet.

“That was a big benchmark for her, she has been trying to get over that mark so it was huge,” said Bath coach Todd Ludden. “She’s running great right now – she’s only off the school record by a tenth right now.”

Ashley Russell won the 55-meter dash with a new personal-best time, finished second in the long jump and was fifth in the 300. The 3,200-meter relay team of Maia Schleehter, Lauren Cook, Juia Longacre and Victoria Shugars won their race and the quartet of Erin Seibert, Allie Sprague, Grace Marvin and Sarah Warriner won the 800-meter relay. Shugars also beat teammate Warriner to win the race walk by two tenths of a second; Schleehter finished second in the 1,500; and Cook was runner-up in the 1,000.

The Bath boys finished second overall to LeRoy, led by Justin Conklin’s win in the 300 and second place in the high jump, while he, Trey Fitzgerald, Jack Bates and Will Black won the 800 relay. Fitzgerald was second in the 55 with a new personal- best time; Ben McCarthy was second in the 1,600; Bates was runner-up in the long jump and triple jump; and the 3,200 relay team of Noah Schuster, Tre Walters, Murray Wright and McCarthy placed second.

“It’s really cool, it was the first race where we got a reward. From the top kid all the way through, almost everyone of them had a personal best or a seasonal best,” Ludden said. “There was a lot of excitement for this. It was really, really nice to see the kids compete with that kind of passion.”

Bath will compete in the Rochester Relays at R.I.T. on Jan. 26.
