The Franklin Street Gallery and Gift Shop, located at 209 N. Franklin St., Watkins Glen, is proud to be the annual group visual arts exhibition venue for the Festival of Women in the Arts.
This annual festival was created by the Cantata Singers ‘to promote the awareness and appreciation of women’s contribution to the arts; to educate and inspire women to become involved in the arts and to provide a public forum for women who make their living through the arts.
The Franklin Street Gallery invites you to participate in this annual arts event. The exhibit starts with an opening reception on March 16 and proceeds until April 29, 2012. The gallery will host a number of classes, workshops and poetry performances coinciding with the exhibit. The theme ‘The Great Mother’ was chosen to observe the universally recognized cultural traditions, religions, psychological theories and even virtual games devoted to her. The influences of the great mother encompass motherhood, the Goddess, fertility, creation and the bounty of the earth.
Both female and male artists are welcome to participate. ‘The Great Mother” will be a publicly juried exhibit. The ‘Peoples Choice’ award and prize money will be awarded to the top two entries in the exhibit. The Call to Artists is attached.
