Not much will change on the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule, and as such Watkins Glen International will host the popular stock car series for a 28th consecutive year and 31st overall.
The annual 90-lap race around the 2.45-mile short course will be held on Aug. 11, with the Nationwide Series serving as a support race. The 2013 Grand-Am Rolex Series, which has become a staple on NASCAR weekend, has not released its 2013 schedule.
Highlighted by a wild final lap, the Finger Lakes 355 at The Glen drew the largest crowd to Schuyler County in two years and became YouTube fodder for the week following the event.
The entire 2013 schedule for The Glen has yet to be released.
The season-opening Daytona 500 is scheduled for Feb. 24, followed by races at Phoenix and Las Vegas. The Chase for the Championship schedule, which after two rounds this year has been scrutinized, will remain largely intact – the opener at Chicagoland on Sept. 15 and wrapping up at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Nov. 17. The only change is Round 6 switching back to Talladega, pushing Kansas Speedway’s race up to Round 4.
Next season will see the repackaged Sprint Cup cars, with new body angles to try and adopt more characteristics of the street cars they’re based on.
