A convicted felon has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon after he was accidentally shot in the foot while hunting on Round Lake Road.
According to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, Robert A. Connis was hunting Saturday on Round Lake Road with five other people. While hunting, Connis shot himself in the foot when a shotgun leaning against a pickup began to fall over and discharged, deputies said.
Connis was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for emergency surgery on his right foot. He has since been released from the hospital.
Connis, 30, of West Lamoka Avenue, Savona, was charged with fourthdegree criminal possession of a weapon, a class A misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail. He was charged because he is a convicted felon and was in possession of a firearm. Connis served prison time for attempted forgery.
Connis was released on an appearance ticket.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the state Department of Environmental Conservation
