On May 5, 2012 an Eagle Scout Court of Honor Ceremony was sponsored by Boy Scout Troop 1057 at the First Presbyterian Church in Bath. The highest and most coveted award in scouting was presented to Taylor D.S. Easterbrook, son of Daniel and Stephanie Easterbrook and brother of Rachelle Hodkinson of Bath. Tyler’s grandparents are Audrey Burdin of Bath, NY and the late Sterling E. Burdin, William and Ann Easterbrook of Chesapeake, VA, and the late Marcia Garrison. Tyler is also the proud uncle of his nephew, Reece Hodkinson; and niece, Isabella Roche. The ceremony was attended by more than 70 family members and friends.
Tyler started scouting as a Tiger Cub in the first grade. He continued through Cub Scouts where he earned the Arrow of Light and now the rank of Eagle in Boy Scouts. Tyler has held many positions of leadership with the Boy Scouts and is currently Junior Assistant Scout Master.
Tyler achieved the rank of Eagle by planning and conducting a community service project. For his project he and a team of volunteers refurbished the Babcock Hollow Cemetery. The stones were straightened and cleaned, the brush was removed and replaced with a new split rail fence. Tyler also made a beautiful sign for the cemetery. The total man hours of this project was over 300. Before this project was done the cemetery was totally camouflaged by trees and brush. Now the cemetery is visible with a beautiful large sign.
Through this service project he learned the importance of leadership, the ability to be organized and thorough. Generous donations were made by the Bath American Legion, Bath Elks and Longwell Lumber Company.
Tyler is a senior at Haverling High School in Bath, NY. He has been the captain of his cross country and swimming teams for the past two years. He was awarded the Livingston County Senior Swimmer of the year award. He is an active participant in his class, currently holding the office of class historian. Tyler is attending Alfred State College in the fall to pursue a degree in Adolescent History Education. He would like to become a history teacher and swim coach so he can be a positive influence on children’s lives both in and out of the classroom. Becoming an Eagle Scout took an enormous amount of time, hard work and dedication. Tyler is very proud of his accomplishments.
